Abstract
This paper presents an examination of the wear resistance of a duplex thermodiffusion (C+N) layer in the erosion–corrosion conditions. Two low-carbon steels for carburizing C15E (Č1221) and 16MnCr5 (Č4320) have been selected for a combined surface hardening treatment with carbon and nitrogen. The microstructure, the microhardness and the erosion–corrosion wear resistance of the diffusion layers have been analyzed. In order to quantify the obtained duplex layer, the carburized (C) and nitrided layers on both steels have also been examined. The results of this examination have shown that the wear resistance of the duplex (C + N) layers in 5 % NaCl solution with suspended particles of SiO2 is not significantly greater than the one of nitrided layers, but in comparison to carburized layers it is much greater.
