Abstract
The main characteristics of rural female entrepreneurship in Finland is micro-entrepreneurship. Children influence on mother's decision to start an own business: woman either start when the children are small or only when they've grown older. Children help mother in her business in various ways. This is partly due to the value of unpaid work on Finnish farms. The situation is changing. Rural children acquire today good education and choose therefore other professions. Female entrepreneurship can giv new possibilities for rural women, but it is not withouth problems. It is still eaysly labeled as a hobby because of the concentration of bussines ideas on typical sectors for women: textiles, food and nurturing.
