Abstract

This study focused on the sample of 567 juvenile offenders who committed violent crimes and therefore were sanctioned during the period from January 1, 1985 to December 31, 1998 in Zagreb. The objective of the study was to determine the existence and the kind of differences among family situations between aggressive and non-aggressive examinees. The three hypotheses about existing differences between the above mentioned groups of participants in structure, socio-economic status and pathology of their primary families have been tested using discriminant analysis as multivariant method which is used to determine differences, at latent level, among groups of participants. Since there were three sets of variables, we did two discriminant analyses. The results show that aggressive participants are deprived of adequate parental supervision since their parents have a lot of interpersonal and financial problems.
