Branka Sladović Franz
Abstract
In case when it is suspected that a child is a victim of sexual abuse, every expert is obliged to conduct an initial interview as soon as possible in order to establish the truth about abuse or in any other way help clarify the suspicion. The paper presents ways to establish signs and symptoms of sexual abuse of a child that can arouse suspicion. The specific features of an initial interview are described through five stages: establishing trust, initial questions about sexual abuse, facilitation of conversation, collection of details and the closing stage. The areas on which the expert should collect as many details as possible are listed, so that the child should not be exposed to the strain of an interview again.
