COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGES AND EXPORT COMPETITIVENESS OF THE CROATIAN MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explore the position of the Croatian manufacturing industry in international trade. The methodology of the paper is based on applying indicators of dispersion and concentration, comparative advantages, intra-industry trade specialization, horizontal and vertical specialization and export competitiveness. The paper consists of four parts: introduction, methodology, empirical results and conclusion. The greatest number of the sectors of manufacturing industry in Croatia does not have any comparative advantages in international trade. The analyses of export competitiveness shows a modest growth of export competitiveness of the engineering sector, the stagnation of chemical industry, the oscillation of shipbuilding industry and significant fall in the competitiveness of textile and clothing industry.
