Abstract

"Partizan Songs from Lika", a collection of folk songs
which originated during the partizan struggle, is preserved in the archives of the Institute of Folklore Research. The songs texts and melodies were collected by a partizan, the composer Miroslav Spiler in 1944.
Among the 407 texts, mainly distichs, there are 50 in which Tito's name is mentioned. These texts reveal the subjective partisan view concerning events during those stormy years. In them, traditional folk expression is combined with the current wartime jargon and fraseology.
The texts and melodies of the songs which relate to Tito are commented on by D. Rihtman-Augustin and J. Bezic.
