Abstract



SUMMARY: The prerequisite of successful prevention of work-related health damage is the awareness of hazardous working conditions, which can be ascertained by risk assessment, revisions of assessment and workplace inspection. This paper gives information about the guidelines and checklists for workplace inspection put together by the Croatian Institute for Health Protection and Safety at Work. In the checklist for inspection of computer-based workplaces special attention is paid to the analysis of employee body position and subjective sense of discomfort. The role of the occupational health specialist is to inspect computer-based workplaces using the prescribed checklist. The paper describes the most common causes of pain in different parts of the body of such employees and suggests measures for their elimination. Based on the analysis of equipment, body position and subjective discomfort, the occupational health specialist can adequately inform and counsel the employees as to how they can protect their health and avoid pain and discomfort while working at the computer.
