Abstract

Desorpti on electrospray ionizati on (DESI) is an ionizati on technique for analysis
in mass spectrometry. It is used as ion source at atmospheric pressure for ionizati on of gases,
liquids and solids at ambient conditi ons. Because of its characteristi cs, when coupled to
mass spectrometer, as a high throughoutput instrumental technique, it can be applied for
various analyti cal purposes such as pepti de and protein analysis, microorganism identi fi cati
on, biological ti ssues imaging, detecti on of drugs and explosives in latent fi ngerprints, metabolite
identi fi cati on, food polutants monitoring and natural compounds characterizati on.
