Abstract

Trichinellosis is a zoonotic infectious disease predominantly among wild animals. It is present less frequently among domestic animals, and occasionally among humans in the form of a small or large epidemic. In some regions, such as eastern part of Croatia, trichinellosis occurs in domestic animals, particularly among pigs. In this paper we describe a new focus of trichinellosis in Međimurje County, which is located in the north-western part of Croatia. Additionally, we present the implementation of methods for trichinellosis detection according to which a new endemic focus of trichinellosis, in trichinellosis-free area was proclaimed. As a result of implemented measures there was a drop in the number of registered human trichinellosis cases in Croatia. The final purpose of the implementation of these measures is a complete eradication of trichinellosis in the entire Croatian territory.
