Abstract

Changes in the eye muscles are a great problem in patients with dysthyroid orbitopathy.
During diagnosis and treatment of such patients a cooperation between ophthalmologist,
endocrinologist and other specialists, as well as a good relationship with the patient,
is required.
Simultaneously with the treatment of the underlying disease, the ophthalmologists begin with the conservative treatment (correction of refractive anomalies, muscle exercises, patches, application of the prism). Because of appearance of diplopia, which is a great problem
to the patient, botulin toxin is applied. Its effect is limited to 3-6 months. That’s why 42-50% of patients should undergo surgery, during which classical operations of strabismus is performed (weakening of the muscles in hyperfunction and strengthening muscles in hypofunction).
For residual angle of squint prismatic glass is applied.
