Abstract

Teachers at schools orientated towards change employ the results of the research of others less and less, while they themselves are becoming researchers. Lawrence Stenhous believes that researching the teachers’ actions is insufficient; it is necessary that the teachers themselves carry out this research. In fulfilling their role as researchers one of the key places pertains to action research, the quality of which cannot be assessed by the criteria applicable to either the paradigm of understanding or the paradigm of interpretation. In assessing the quality of action research it is necessary to take account of both the quality of action and the quality of report.
