Abstract
In Ignatius, mistical experience of the Holy Trinity three cardinal moments are stressed: 1. Experience of the Trinity at the moment of his conversion, in Manreza, his whole subsequent life bearing the stamp of the Trinity; 2. Se¬eing the Holy Trinity in La Storta (1537) on the occasion of which he was »accepted under the banner of the Cross next to Christ, the Lord's son«; 3. Seeing during his work on the Constitutions of the Order, so that they can be considered as a kind of subsequent inspiration of the Constitutions. Theological analyses have shown that Ignatius experienced the »Economy of Salvation« of the Holy Trinity, thus a christological vision of total reality with the Cross at its centre. His mystical experience of »The Father placing him next to his Son« represents the supreme formula of christian religion today. According to Ignatius, as a mystery of the Holy Trinity, God's supre-macy should be related to the kenosis of the Cross, thus resisting all theoabsolutism (Barth, Moltman, Urs von Balthasar). Finally, Ignatius' mistery of the Holy Trinity was the solution for tension within the Church between freedom and the institution it was realized that the Holy Spirit actually is freedom issuing from Father and Son.
