Abstract

The author briefly refers to the earliest legal documents in the world and in the southern Slavic nations on the subject of human rights. The safeguards of legality and constitutionality in Yugoslavia and Croatia are discussed as well as the meaning of the terms "rights" and "freedoms" in the Constitution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and in the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia. The author criticizes certain legal and constitutional pertaining to safeguards for life, freedom, political activity and religious freedom and proposes that such provisions be ammended or repealed.
