Abstract

Aim: Burns are a common cause of injuries at work or at home. They are also one of the major causes of hospitalizati on at departments of plastic surgery today. The aim of this study was to analyze the cause and the severity of burns in examined patients. Methods: In the 9-year-period study, from 2000. to 2009., 132 pati ents with burns were
hospitalized and analyzed at the Department of plastic and reconstructive surgery, Clinical hospital centre Rijeka. Results: The majority of pati ents had second degree burns. The major cause of burns among parti cipants was open flame. Conclusion: Data obtained from this study correspond data from medical literature. Though the number of study participants was relatively small according to data from medical literature, results demonstrate mostly
second degree burns among patients, which were successfully treated by conservative approach.
