Abstract

The background and main characteristics of the papal letter entitled Christifideles laid are presented. Its conetnts are compared with other church documents in which the subject of the laity is mentioned. Particular attention is devoted to the position and role of women in the Church as well as to the identity of lay persons in general, in light of this letter.
