Abstract
The question about the beginning of human life is by no means easier for a contemporary biologist, geneticist, philosopher and theologian than it was for the classical Greek philosopher Aristotle.
The author gives first a survey of the development of these problems through the history, subsequently he outlines the attitude of the Catholic tradition. Afterwards he analyses the concept itself of the human life and brings some difficulties in connection with the understandig of the beginning of human life which is a basic value both of the society and of the Church. In all his exposition the author concentrates on the human person and emphasizes its dignity, especially in connection with the abortion.
