Abstract

Miklós Vásárhelyi (Rijeka, 1917 – Budapest, 2001) was a prominent Hungarian journalist, politician, historian and publicist. This lawyer and polyglot, member of the Communist Party of Hungary and participant of the antifascist resistance to Horthy’s Hungary, though having actively partaken during the Stalinist period in Hungary, committed himself rather early against Stalinism and suffered considerably in the times of Imre Nagyi’s democratic endeavours. Vásárhelyi authored a number of books, and in 2005, the Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsàny unveiled a tablet in his memory in Rijeka. This paper is, as far as publicly known, the first text written in Croatia on this prominent Hungarian from Rijeka.
