Abstract

The paper analyses the current situation and perspectives of renewable energy sources with regards to current economic crisis, the rise in unemployment, global insecurity and resource wars, climate change and other phenomena and processes. A general review is given of the world and the EU, as well as the states that offer a possible path to a more sustainable relation towards energy. A special consideration is given to the situation in Croatia, especially to the analysis of the Energy Development Strategy as the key state document which determines the development of energy and therefore renewable energy sources. Regardless of whether it examines the world, the EU or Croatia, the paper looks at the ways in which the state performs its role with regards to renewable energy sources.
