Abstract

Acute pyelonephritis is a common, potentially severe disease which more often affects females. We present a seventeen-year-old female admitted to our hospital due to acute pyelonephritis without any previous urogenital infection, with good treatment response. Towards the end of treatment renal ultrasound was performed and severe hydronephrosis of left kidney was found due to pyelourethral stenosis which was followed by further surgical treatment. Conclusion: renal ultrasound is recommended in female patients with acute pyelonephritis, even in case of first symptomatic uroinfection. It has been shown that 11.5% of patients with acute pyelonephritis have complicated pyelonephritis which was diagnosed using abdominal ultrasound.
