Abstract
Croatian regulatory framework for radiation protection has fully been harmonised with the EU acquis communautaire with the passing of the 2010 Act on Radiological and Nuclear Safety. This Act establishes
an independent regulatory body, the State Offi ce for Radiological with administrative and expert capacities. The Act regulates protection measures against ionising radiation, nuclear safety practices, and practices involving sources of ionising radiation. Its compliance with European and international standards warrants
effective protection of individuals and the environment. How effective implementation of the radiation protection measures is can be assessed through a number of indicators, including individual exposure. This paper presents the fi ndings of occupational exposure of healthcare, industry, veterinary medicine, and research workers to ionising radiation from 2000 to 2009. Exposure to external radiation was measured using fi lm or thermoluminiscent (TLD) dosimeters. We
analysed monthly effective doses for each individual, estimated using the Hp (10) personal dose equivalent. The results indicate that the decrease in the collective dose coincides with and can reasonably be attributed to the development of radiation protection legislative, its harmonisation with the EU and international standards, and to more effective administrative measures.
