Abstract

Based on previous geo-morphological analyses of the island of Ugljan, geo-ecological evaluation of Ugljan was conducted, from the point of view of its tourist and recreational valorization. The evaluation was conducted regarding physical features, aesthetic value and accessibility of certain parts of the island for certain types of recreation and tourist activities (swimming, sunbathing, walking, škraping – type of trekking). The method of relative evaluation was used to evaluate the area within four morphographic categories: slopes, peaks, valley fl oors and basins as well as shore. The results revealed the lack of accessibility as the key limiting factor for tourist valorization of certain areas of the island of Ugljan. Th is limitation in the tourist uses of space is especially visible on the steeper southwest side of the island (distance, nonexistence or lack of tended pathways and ports). Th erefore, several propositions are given as possible solutions to this problem (tending of pathways, informing tourists about possible individual and group walks to certain destinations, organizing professionally guided tours).
