Abstract

Royal Boroughs belong to important mutual legal heritage of feudal Croatian and Hungarian law. Unlike relatively adequate research of history of Croatian Royal Boroughs, there is a rather unknown fact in the Croatian science that Croatian population lived in many Hungarian Royal Boroughs, mostly under various Croatian subethnical names such as: Dalmatae, Dalmatins, Dalmatians, Illyrians, Illyrian Roman Catholics, Bačka Croatians (Bunjevci), the Šokac people, Bosniacs, Slavonians, Tots, Catholic Racs. In this paper the author conveys the data on Croatian population in three Royal Boroughs of the then Bač-Bodrog district: Subotica, Sombor and Novi Sad.
