Abstract

Compressive fracture of vertebral body mostly occurs in the thoracic and thoracolumbar
segment of the spine. It is caused by osteoporosis or destruction of bone tissue due
to tumorous process in the body. Fractures are manifested as a sudden pain in the back, often
without any previous trauma. The approach to the treatment is individual. Traditional
treatment includes resting, the use of orthosis and analgesics. Spinal deformity, permanent
pain and decrease of quality of life are common consequences of such method of treatment.
Vertebroplasty is a method of application of the cement into the broken vertebral
body resulting in instant fragment stabilisation, pain relief and improved quality of life.
