Sažetak

Summer fashion accessories such as fans, parasols and hats are very interesting fashion accessories, used for centuries, and they have left a big mark on women’s clothing, and in general - on the development of human civilization. The„clothing culture“ and social standard of Osijek citizens can be recognized by the preserved fashion and textile materials of the Gillming-Hengl family in the Museum of Slavonia. With the great help of available summer fashion accessories, such as: gloves, fans, hats, parasols, shoes and handbags, we can monitor the social position and economic status of the owner herself.
Matilda Gillming-Hengl was involved in the social life of the city and various cultural events for public occasions, especially dance and theater events, and in her daily life she followed fashion trends. Traveling around the leading centers of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, mainly Vienna and Paris, she acquired fashion accessories that she wore, and then donated a large part of them to the Museum of Slavonia. Her fashion accessories bring us the latest fashion in the stylistic periods of historicism (in which styles from past times are renewed), then Art Nouveau and Art deco. Through Matilda Hengl’s fashion accessories, we can explore individual styles that often take us back to certain past periods, for which authentic examples are often missing.
The fashion of Matilda and the Hengl family, even through the smallest accessory, can present us with numerous stylistic curiosities, documenting social events, and the general cultural climate of Osijek provenance and the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Thanks to the Hengl family, Osijek is becoming a style-conscious place.
