Sažetak
Ten years ago P. DUWEZ introduced the so-called splat-cooling technique of ultra-rapid quenching from the melt. Ever since it has been relatively easy to prepare a wide variety of super-saturated metallic solid solutions, and new metastable, sometimes even amorphous phases, unobtainable by classical procedures. Thus new possibilities of systematic choice of materials for comparative studies. of their properties have been opened to metal physicists and physical metallurgists. The contributions to the Brela Conference treat mainly the preparation and investigation of structural, electrical and mechanical properties of these new, metastable metallic materials. These efforts are at their very beginning and the entire field is yet to be explored. Nevertheless, one feels confident that by systematic and careful observations and measurements, on judiciously chosen series of these new alloys, important regularities and, possibly, fundamental laws will ultimately be discovered.
