Sažetak
Longitudinal fracture of the tooth root represents one of the most unfavourable complications in the treatment of teeth. Although much has been said about the causes leading to longitudinal fractures, the question of the main etiologic factor is difficult to answer. Foreign literature most often mentions the method o f treatment and filling of the root canal. In spite of the many attempts that have been made in the treatment o f longitudinal fractures, no satisfactory solution has yet been found which could be universally applied in the case o f all longitudinal root fractures. Examples from our practice confirm the experience reported in foreign literature, although the frequency o f such fractures in this country is rarer. During conservative treatment of the tooth special attention should be paid to the forces applied in the instrumentation of the canal and the technique of filling the canal should be carefully chosen in order to avoid overloading the structure of the tooth root.
