Sažetak

The paper advocates for a more productive research of sub-municipal self-government in Croatia in order to provide for scientific and professional background necessary for its adaptation to citizens’ needs. Orientation research questions in six areas have been offered: what kind of sub-municipal self-government we need; functioning of the sub-municipal self-government; financing; elections at the sub-municipal level; citizens’ participation at the sub-municipal level; information
provision at the sub-municipal level.
