Sažetak

The aim of this study was to examine the predictability of cognitive and emotional intelligence indicators for the criteria variables – average of grades at half-term and final grades for Croatian and mathematics. Cognitive intelligence was operationalized by the results on the NNAT, while emotional intelligence using results on the BarOn
Emotional Intelligence Inventory: Youth Version, which measures interpersonal intelligence, intrapersonal intelligence, copying with stress and adaptability. The study included 273 students (132 males and 141 females) attending the 6th, 7th and 8th grades of elementary schools in Croatia. It was determined that emotional intelligence
components did not significantly contribute to the explanation of criteria variables. Cognitive intelligence was a significant predictor of all three measures of achievement.
