Sažetak
The authoratributes the painting of St. Francis ot Assisí in the desert from the Strossmayer Gallery of Old Masters in Zagreb (oil on stone, 0,210 x 0.260 m. SG-129) to the Veronese mannerist Giambattista Rovedata (Verona-Venice. after Sept. 29, 1620). ln his analysis of the painting he emphasizes the use of classical iconographic repertoire accompanied by an unusual structural and spatial interpretation, Taking St. Francis' hymn to the Sun and the Moon as his starting point, Rovedata set two sources of light in a unique manner. Just as unusual is his use of the black marble background, whose shadows become a structural part of the setting. The painting is attributed to Rovedata of account of his Veronese works, and dated cca 1605, when he had repeatedly painted the motif of St. Francis.
