Sažetak

Determinations of chemically bound carbon monoxide in blood of smokers and nonrnokers have been carried out by a method of Horvath and Roughton (2) using manometric apparatus of Van Slyke. The concentrations of CO in blood are normally distributed with a mean of 0,180 ml CO/100 ml blood (non-smokers) and 0.759 ml CO/100 ml blood (smokers) resp., and a standard deviation of ± 0,0855 (non smokers) and ± 0,398 (smokers) resp. The following upper limits for normal values of CO in blood are proposed: 0,31 ml/100 ml blood (non-smokers) and 1.39 ml/100 ml blood (smokers). There is a statistically significant increase of CO-content in blood of smokers as compared to the CO-in-blood level of non-smokers. There is no significant difference in the CO-content of the blood between the male and female group, nor between the subjects from town and village.
