Sažetak
Thermochromic inks are temperature sensitive materials that change colour due to a change in temperature. These inks are mostly printed on smart packaging applications where they are used in a form of temperature indicators. The colorants in these inks are microencapsuled which makes the prints obtained with these inks more sensitive to abrasion in comparison to the prints obtained with conventional inks. Therefore, in this paper, we decided to evaluate the rub resistance of offset thermochromic inks. In the experimental part of the work, the prints obtained with three offset thermochromic inks (blue, burgundy and green) which were printed on coated and uncoated paper substrates, were subjected to a rub test in accordance to standard BS 3110. With this type of test we determined the suitability of the printing substrate to this particular printing ink. After the rub test was conducted, we assessed the degree of rubbing by visual inspection. We also determined the colorimetric changes on the prints after their exposure to rubbing. Thermochromic prints analysed within this study showed best rub resistance on uncoated papers.
