Sažetak
Copernicus is the European Union's Earth observation and monitoring programme that delivers data and information to better understand the Earth and sustainable manage the environment. Based on the processing of environmental data collected from Earth observation Sentinel satellites, contributing missions and in situ sensors, Copernicus services provide near-real-time data on a global level. From 2008 up to 2020, the expected investment of the European Commission and the European Space Agency in the Copernicus programme is EUR 8.2 billion. Copernicus services transform satellite and in situ data into value-added information by processing and analysing data – data sets that have been collected over the years have become comparable and searchable. The Copernicus programme has six services (land, marine, atmosphere, climate change, emergency, and security) that support the development of many applications by offering products to users in the geoinformatics sector through Geographic Information System (GIS). As of June 2018, Copernicus Data and Information Access Services are operational through five access platforms known as DIAS. Cloud-based platforms have been developed to facilitate and standardize access to Copernicus data and information. Because DIAS platforms provide mass storage and data processing services, users can access information from a single-entry point. The Copernicus programme provides and, in the future, will provide even more new business opportunities for development in many areas such as environmental protection, urban management, spatial planning, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, transport, climate change, tourism, etc.
