Sažetak
Schizophrenia and psychotic disorders are common mental disorders that affect a large number of people worldwide. Psychosis generally refers to a group of symptoms characterized by altered perception and interpretation of reality, while schizophrenia represents a heterogeneous and chronic psychiatric illness in which psychotic symptoms occur. Although schizophrenia and psychoses in general have been the subject of prolonged research, the exact causes of their onset remain unknown. Modern imaging methods such as PET and SPECT allow for a deeper understanding of brain function and the development of these disorders and have the potential to become powerful tools in their diagnosis and treatment. The aim of this review is to highlight key findings from PET and SPECT studies that have significantly contributed to the understanding of the pathophysiology of the disease and the development of antipsychotic therapy.
