Sažetak

Research into the mental health of healthcare workers before the pandemic indicated a high level of professional stress, which consequently led to impairment of mental and physical health and a decrease in job satisfaction. The pandemic has made the previous situation even more challenging by increasing the proportion and severity of symptoms of impaired mental health, especially anxiety and depression. According to the researchers, mental health problems, stress, exhaustion, and burnout are the leading causes of health workers thinking about leaving their profession around the world, so identifying and mitigating these risk factors and providing acceptable, simple, accessible, and economical options for prevention and intervention are of paramount importance. This review paper offers an overview of RCT research, systematic literature reviews, and meta-analyses, providing an outline of numerous research papers that investigate the connection between mindfulness and the prevention of mental health disorders and the improvement of personal well-being. A summary of the results indicates that mindfulnessbased interventions are effective in alleviating symptoms of anxiety, depression, and professional stress, in addition to increasing feelings of subjective well-being. Short and longer live interventions in groups, via virtual platforms and/or using mobile phone applications are proven to be effective. Although the authors of the meta-analyses indicate that more research with a more rigorous methodology is needed, we can conclude that the current evidence base confirms that within the scope of existing interventions, MBI methods certainly have their place. At the end of the paper, there is a short critical review of the research limitations.
