Sažetak

Corn crop may be grown in monoculture as well as in rotation with other crops due to a number of organizational, agro-ecological and economic reasons. Agronomically efficient and environmentally benign production of corn and other arable crops is often more feasible in crop rotation. Foreign and home studies have clearly shown that grain yields are smaller when corn is grown continuously relative to a cropping rotation. In general, reduced stress from pests is one of the main factors for improved yields from crop rotations in modern corn production. In this professional paper, the autotoxicity and the effect of previous crops on corn performance is described and illustrated. In addition, the main pest problems in corn monocropping, namely cob and grain rot, western corn rootworm and johnsongrass, are presented along with the recommended agronomic practices and operations.
