SURVEY OF TWO ASIAN LONGHORN BEETLES (ANOPLOPHORA CHINENSIS AND A. GLABRIPENNIS) IN CROATIAN FORESTS

Sažetak
Asian longhorn beetles, Anoplophora chinensis i A. glabripennis, are quarantine organisms which are a threat to broadleaved trees of European parks and forests. These insects are native to Far-East Asia and have (been introduced) spread to several countries in Europe and North America, where economical damage is estimated in millions. Up to now these species have been found in parks, but their adjustment, lack of natural enemies and speed of spreading shows that their appearance in forests could have catastrophic consequences. Protective measures are limited because of the hidden life cycle in the wood. Surveys of A. chinensis in forests are carried out in Croatia by two visual inspections yearly at specific and predetermined localities. Because prevention of introduction has the highest priority, the aim of this paper is to present (analyzse the) biological and morphological features of the Asian longhorn beetles in order to inform professionals about this potential problem.
