Sažetak

The study included 103 eugnathic subjects with intercuspidation in the course of the second occlusal elevation. They were divided into three groups for comparison. The following parameters were determined by clinical functional analysis: the mean period of time required for the teeth to reach the level of occlusal contact; the type of occlusion in mixed and permanent dentition; the number of occlusal contacts per tooth and subject during the first and second transition stage of tooth exchange, as well as in permanent dentition during the stage of second occlusal elevation; and sex-related differences. The results obtained showed that 2.2 and 2.8 years were required for deciduous incisors to be substituted by permanent ones and reach the intercuspidation contact in male and female children, respectively. The exchange of the deciduous zone of the jaw took 2.9 years in boys and only 1.5 years in girls. In girls, occlusal contact was achieved at the age of 11, and in boys at the age of 11.9 years. The occlusion was found to be unstable. This instability included a stage of rest and stability at the mean age of 9.3 years, characterized by the greatest number of occlusal contacts, i.e. a mean of 3.8 contacts per tooth and 46.2 per subject in the postcanine sector. Second molar was found to have the highest number of occlusal contacts while in occlusion.
