Sažetak

The authors investigated the incidence of yeastlike fungi from 121 root canals of teeth with one and more roots and studied their relationship to seasonal appearance. For this purpose cultures were grown on Saboraud's proof agar from 121 root canals whose gangrenous pulp had been exposed to salivary contamination. The test was extended over 6 months (November, December 1968 and January, February, March and April 1969). A total of 31 species of microorganisms resembling yeastl'ike fungi of the Candida, Rhodotorula and Scopulariopsis family was isolated. Their relationship to seasonal growth was investigated by means of the %2 test which showed that Candida appeared equally throughout the entire testing period while Rhodotorula and Scopulariopsis were not isolated in the course of November, December and January. Thus global significant differences occurred affecting the general picture of fungal contents in the root canal in connection with greater incidence in the aerosol. Concluding it is mentioned that in addition to the well known factors affecting the incidence of mycotic flora (geographical factors, salivary contamination, antibiotics and corticosteroid treatment of the root canal) investigators should mark the period during which the material for the investigation is collected since the results of individual sampling could thus be more easily interpreted.
