Sažetak

The author considers education on the basis of the Italian bishops’ pastoral guidelines for the decade from 2010 to 2020. Following the Second Vatican Council, the Church has sought to serve today’s person, bearing in mind his "joys, hopes, sorrows and pains." Pointing to the urgent need for education, the Italian bishops call for "education for a good life." Imitating Jesus who is a "good teacher," individual Christians and the entire ecclesial community are called to cultivate compassion, the desire for sharing, and empathy in their work and teaching. The article attempts to explain what kind of education and educational model are in question. For this purpose, the author refers to Jesus and his educational model, as well as the questions and issues of today’s youth. They need assistance in order to attain experience that will help them in directing their vocations, which includes education in the faith and openness to divine life in all the dimensions of an individual’s life. Therefore, pastoral ministry should be reassessed and the responsibilities of the family, society, school, Church and individuals in education for a good life according to the gospel should be increased.
