[Illumination of the field of action in dentistry]

Sažetak

In the first place the authors discuss basic and additional illumination of a dentist's Consulting room. Emphasis is placed on the fact that good illumination of the sphere of action is one of the requirements of faultless work in the oral cavity. The phenomenon of transport of light in glass rods is described in detail, schematic representations are given of fiber-optic light installations and the principles of fiber-optics are discussed. The advantages o f cold light for intraoral and intradental interventions are discussed in detail and the favourable experiences with the lntralux apparatus mentioned. Four colour figures are presented convincingly showing the advantage of cold light fo r dental intervetions. Since devices w ith fiber-optics offer optimal illumination possiblities, the authors believe that cold light will be more used in dental clinics in the near future.
