Sažetak
The aim of investigation was to evaluate the risk to which pregnant women are exposed of they smoke and drink alcohol and coffee. Of 308 examinees summoned for a control examination there were 246 pregnant women who responded. Among these 145 experienced health complaints in the course of pregnancy requiring a sick leave and 101 had normal pregnancy. Statistically, there were no significant differences between the women who smoked and those who did not as regards the health condition in the course of that particular pregnancy or complications in earlier pregnancies. Alcohol intake in pregnancy was not found to influence the number of spontaneous abortions, the rate of morbidity, the Institution of a therapy, or the term of delivery. The effect of coffeine on the vegetative nervous system due to excessive coffee intake in pregnancy was not established as a possible cause of spontaneous abortions or of higher morbidity among pregnant women.
