Pope Francis in his encyclical Laudato si' has not only dared to openly and seriously speak out on environmental issues, but also to recognize that the subject of land has been forgotten in the consciousness of Christian believers. Although in recent decades biblical theologians have warned about the importance of land, only with the encyclical Laudato si' has this issue been presented before the Christian theological public as one of the important components of biblical faith. There are three reasons to observe the importance of land in Christian theology: the founding of the modern State of Israel, the environmental crisis and the importance of land for human identity. The biblical theology of the land that arose from the context of the captivity crisis views the land as a gift that demands respect and love, but also constant reflection. Land, a fundamental component of biblical faith, because of its importance in theological reflection about the relationship God-land-man, is presented to the modern Church as a transtemporal subject through which you can satisfy the hunger and thirst of modern man for roots, for settling in a space, for land as the place of concrete living of Christian faith. Even though Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato si' has been received as "environmental", the scope of its messages is by no means purely environmental. First and foremost it calls to a theological and practical return to the land and all that the earthly life in itself involves, and what Christianity through the course of history has slipped its mind and simply forgot to consider as the central message of the faith. Although invisible at first sight, the theology of the land is the thread that holds together the entire environmental and theological teaching of Pope Francis in his encyclical Laudato si' and which forms the weave of the systematic theological and social teaching that is presented. The theology of the land gives foundations to the core message of Pope Francis, namely, that the land is a mutual home not only for human beings, but also to the entire created world.
