Self-medication with antibiotics – through education to prevention

Sažetak
Antibiotic self-medication is defined as using the antibiotics on one's own accord, which was not prescribed by a doctor. It concerns antibiotics taken without a proper prescription, using left-overs from previous treatment or termination of antibiotic use after symptoms regression without consulting the physician. Age groups between 15 and 39 represent the largest group of antibiotic consumers and the group where self-medication is mostly expressed. Current public health campaigns being held on the streets and town squares have shown to be inadequate for education on rational antibiotic use, while social network campaigns have shown to be a better and more efficient way to communicate and educate target risk groups.
