Sažetak

Pjerko Bona (1788-1846) is a descendant of the famous noble family from Dubrovnik. After adventurous youth – he participated in the uprising against the French occupation, then lived in Egypt for ten years – he got married and settled in Dubrovnik. This impoverished nobleman wrote some thirty plays in Croatian and two in Italian, and he also wrote some poems and was engaged in music. According to the genre, his plays can be roughly divided into two categories: pseudohistorical and folk-enlightenment plays. The comedy entitled Jačinto hvastalo belongs to the latter one. There is a series of dramaturgical commonplaces, however coherently organized, with convincing dialogues and statements that not only follow and encourage the plot, but also materialize vividly the spiritual profiles of its characters. Criticism as an element of Realism, general reconciliation and cooling of tempers without any dramatic denouement as a trace of Biedermeier complex of ‘home sweet home’, lesson as a declaration of Enlightenment mind, folk atmosphereand folk as targeted recipient, make a perfect pattern of the Croatian folk drama in the 19th century.
