Sažetak

The autors treat in their article the organizational problems and aims in the preparation of the Department of Surgery of the Hospital in Slavonski Brod for work in war conditions. These problems and aims were defined previously. The main feature of the recent war events are two periods. The first one from March 25, 1992 which is characterized by relative peace and a number of organizational measures beginning at the level of wards themselves up to the Ministry of Health. The second period started on March 25, 1992 after the opening of the front line in the Bosnian Posavina when direct war destruction of Brod and its surroundings started. These two periods differ also in their respective mortality rates: 2,08% in the first one and 2,8% in the second one. The numbers of 387 external fixations, 203 blood vessel reconstructions and 188 operated and brain injuries are only one segment of 5910 war victims registered in our Department since the beginning of the war on August 28, 1991.
