Sažetak

A tenyear surgical therapy of breast cancer at Medical centre Slavonska Požega has been analysed in this study. Evaluation results cover 261 patients aged 22 — 82. In 198 (75.9 %) cases Patey’s mastectomy was performed. Therefore, statistics using X2 test is most relevant for such a group of patients. Frequency of distant metastase (D.M.) and local recurrents (L.R.) in our case material was crucial in this clinical investigation. Their frequency rate was stated in relation to the most essential characteristics of tumors such as: volume, gradation, localisation, TNM classification, preoperative status of axilla, pathohistologic division etc. Connection of individual tumor characteristics with the frequency of distant metastases and local recurrents had the most direct prognostic implications, considering 5 — 10 year long survival period. In conclusion, the author advocates the larger application of modified mastectomy in our hospitals, pointing out its numerous positive characteristics, confirmed by many authors as well. At the same time a partially reserved view, considering the tendencies of mass application of spared surgical treatment in surgery, has been expressed. The stress should be on stricter selectivity while forming deciseions.
