Sažetak

Piskovica Cave is the longest Croatian cave in Flysch and the fifth longest cave on the Istrian peninsula (after Jama kod Rašpora, Ponor Bregi, Zračak Nade and Kaverna u Tunelu Učka). It is located 12 km NE of Pazin in the vicinity of the path leading to the Učka tunnel, near Gologorica. It is 1036 m long and presents unique morphological and genetic characteristics.
The cave offers the opportunity to observe different types of fissured formations such as square cracks in limestone, or sigmoidal cracks in marl which are a result of the development of initial ceiling passages (omega profile) and different hydraulic and chemical regimes of water flow.
Research in this cave has given a new insight into the porosity and dimensions inside flysch sediments and opened up the question of the dominance of chemical and mechanical processes in the development of underground cavities.
