Sažetak

After the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy at the end of World War I in 1918 and as part of the Paris Peace Negotiations in the 1919-1920 period, the foundations for the settlement of the issue of the ex-Monarchy’s archival materials administration were set out. Within the negotiations in Trianon in 1920, the Kingdom of Hungary set certain requirements in relation to the archival materials in the central and concurrent (Austro-Hungarian) jurisdiction of the Monarchy that were stored in the Austrian state archival institutions, which initiated the consequent years-long negotiations between Hungary and Austria. The negotiations ended on the 28th of May 1926 with the signing of the Treaty on Archives, which represented a certain compromise between the Hungarian request for the division of ownership over the said materials and the Austrian rejection of it. Based on the principle of provenance and the agreements on the joint administration of the archival materials created through the activities of the central institutions, whose jurisdiction in the period from 1526 to 1918 covered Hungary as well and the concurrent Austro-Hungarian jurisdiction (1867-1918), an agreement was made pertaining to the joint care of the said archival funds and collections (kulturell-gemeinsames Eigentum). It emanated from the Hungarian side within the activities of the permanent Hungarian Archival Delegation, which began its work on January 1st 1927.
