Sažetak

This part of the study considers the causes of the war in Croatia in the light of political changes in the East Europe, the nature and the ways in which former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia functioned and the role of Yugoslav People's Army (JNA), especially the rise of Serbian nationalism including the project for territorial expansion of Serbia. The plans and preparations made by all sides have been considered including the summary and analysis of the basic elements of the war operations: since the beginning of the Serbian rebellion in Croatia and the consequences of the war in Slovenia, followed by the creation of the Croatian Army and the Yugoslav People's Army offensive in the fall of 1991, and the Croatian counter-offensive at the end of 1991. The special attention has been paid to battle for Vukovar which was a genuine turning point of the war but also the example of the attack operation and the defence of settlement.
