Sažetak

The objective of the study was to determine the optimal therapy for feline gingivitis. The local inflammatory reaction was treated with a laser and during treatment, pain and oedema were reduced. The study was conducted on only three cats subjected to laser therapy for gingivitis during a one month period. Laser therapy was applied once every seven days. All three cats were FIV and FeLV negative. The degree of dehydration and white blood cell count decreased proportionally with the increasing number of treatments. After three weeks, the third treatment showed a white blood cell count within the physiological limits. Treatment results vary depending on the pathogenesis, duration of chronic gingivitis, general individual immunity and secondary diseases. In all three cases, the disease recurred after one month. The therapy was thus found to be deficient, and furthermore, each treatment required the use of general anaesthesia. Future studies should address whether other laser wavelengths are more efficient.
